Materials: Film, audio, fabric, embroidery, acrylic paint, spray paint,

The States of Me is a digitally manifested mixed media collage. The original collage was made on a ±1,5x5m piece of hand-dyed canvas which was then transferred to the digital realm and finished. The full work can be viewed on www.pathcollective.art.

My work focuses on the topic of empathy while simultaneously dealing with the human condition in the everyday. For my graduation work it does this by calling for the viewer their, and showcasing my own empathy. It’s a two-way street so while my empathy for others is important, this work mainly shows the many sides to myself to allow the viewer to go on an empathic journey. It portrays my surroundings and longings but also my anxieties as a subject of the achievement society. The sound of walking serves as a symbolic reminder how life can’t be paused. While we can attempt to enjoy it by slowing down we will remain on our way to our next destination.

The site on which The States of Me is displayed is an online collective created and owned by me named the Path Collective which encourages empathy. To do this the site for example has functions such as a chat box, and a submission form for visitors to submit their own work for display.
